Encore Batavia began in 2020 as an initiative of the Batavia Parks Foundation with a vision of “Empowering an intergenerational Batavia,” and a mission of “Weaving our community together through experiences fostering purpose and connection.”
This team is studying best practice in intergenerational playgrounds and parks while identifying potential location/s in Batavia to design new intergenerational play spaces. All generations are invited to participate on this team from research to design, funding and construction, fueling inspiration for a possible new playground/park in Batavia’s future.
I. Surveying and documenting public art in Batavia.
II. Creating an interactive art map/app.
III. Adding new interactive art to celebrate our history and enhance Batavia.
IV. Developing interactive art walking and bicycling tours, then promoting art through marketing channels.
Batavia Men's Shed
There are over 1,000 Men’s Shed in the world committed to promoting social connections, hands-on-projects, and support opportunities among men. Batavia is starting a shed for men of all ages and is currently exploring options for establishing a physical space/shed as well as launching a mobile shed where members work “shoulder to shoulder” while planning and building community projects.
Encore Batavia is guided by an Intergenerational Advisory Council made up of Batavia residents, aged 20’s through 80’s, who provide diverse leadership and volunteer energy in the areas of purpose, placemaking and programs.
